Acceptances

Service Learning and Internships

For programs offered directly through Learn International (Service Learning and Internship programs), once the application is submitted with all the appropriate documents,  participants will receive an acceptance letter via email and post. Typically, it takes 2-3 weeks to be accepted, based on the review committee’s schedule.

Customized Programs

For Customized Programs (Faculty-Led options), Learn International will work with the institution offering the program on acceptance procedures. Typically, the institution will accept participants internally and inform Learn International of all accepted parties thereafter. Acceptance procedures and timelines vary from institution to institution, so it is up to the applicant to understand these policies and procedures. Learn International is not responsible for communications between the providing institution and the participant.

Code of Conduct

Behavior and Conduct

Participants are a representatives of their home country and ambassadors of their home institution.  Having respectful and culturally sensitive behavior is essential to studying abroad, as participants are guests in their host country.  Learn International expects participants to abide by Learn International’s Code of Conduct Policy throughout their program.

All participants will receive a copy of the Learn International Code of Conduct prior to arrival, along with a Student Participation Contract and must agree to abide by the policy prior to the start of their program.

For a digital copy of our Code of Conduct Policy, please contact us directly.

Drug, Alcohol and Substance Use Policy

Using alcohol or drugs, whether legal or illegal, allows for higher risks in relation to health, safety and legal issues. Participants are fully responsible for their health and wellness while on a Learn International program, so please make good choices.

It is important to remember that when a participant leaves their home country, new rules and laws apply in their host country. Each participant is required to research these rules and regulations prior to arrival, so they are aware and prepared to act accordingly. It is our goal to keep participants safe and healthy while abroad, but ultimately, it is the participant’s responsibility to do so.

Alcohol

Learn International does not encourage drinking of any kind while on a Study Abroad program. Being in a foreign country means that rules and laws differ from a participant’s home country. Therefore, please review all laws and policies in your host country prior to arrival.

We encourage participants to look after themselves and maintain their health and wellness. This includes the consumption of alcohol, legally or illegally. If a participant gets in trouble with the local government or police for these issues, Learn International will not assist, act on a participant’s behalf or get involved in these matters. Participants alone are responsible for their actions and agree to follow Learn International policy on these serious matters.

Participants may not buy or use alcohol at any Learn International sponsored events, including but not limited to:

  • Orientation
  • Excursions
  • Fieldtrips
  • Transport, such as on buses or public transportation for field trips and excursions
  • Any event where meals are purchased by Learn International

If you have any questions about what constitutes a Learn International program, please ask a staff member at any time.

If a participant arrives intoxicated or shown to have abused alcohol at any of the above events, they will be asked to leave at their own expense. Learn International staff have the right to refuse a participant entry or participation to an event if they feel the participant is not acting according to Learn International policy. Further, they will be subject to disciplinary action, which may result in dismissal from the program at their own expense and their transcripts being withheld.

If a participant is of legal drinking age and decides to drink alcohol, please drink responsibly and make good choices. Use common sense and do not over consume alcohol. Alcohol abuse is very serious and not tolerated by Learn International on any level. There are no exceptions.

Drugs

Drugs, whether legal or illegal, are not tolerated on any Learn International programs. Do not use them, do not buy them, do not make them and do not bring them on any part of a Learn International program. If a participant is caught with drugs on any level, they will be dismissed from their program at their own expense. There are no exceptions.

Substance Abuse

Abusing substances, alcohol, drugs, and even physician-approved substances for mental health, chronic pain, and the like, is a very serious issue. If a participant suffers or struggles with a health issue requiring the intake of controlled substances, they alone are responsible for their medication management, addiction issues, and overall health. Learn International will not support participants who abuse their medications, drugs, or alcohol under any circumstances.

If a participant is found to abuse any substance on a Learn International program, they will be referred to medical help where applicable, subject to disciplinary action or dismissal from their program at their own expense.
