Question to Michelle:

If you could write a book about your life, what would the title be and why?

Book title: Why I Walk

Before I left for Spain, my colleagues at my job harassed me regularly, stating that I needed to blog during my trip. I vehemently said no, the trip was for me and no one else and that I didn’t want to put myself under any extra added pressure on top of walking 30+ km per day. They kept at me, and said I at least needed to post on Instagram. I barely knew what that was, let alone had an account or knew how to use it.  My phone at the time still had buttons to type; it wasn’t smart!

Eventually I set up an account, a friend schooled me on the basics, and I created my first hashtag: #shellycamina.  You can’t see my posts unless you’re my Insta-friend, but I did end up blogging on it, using that hashtag to follow my journey, and it outlined really why I walk, which is something I continue to do, every day, because those of us who have walked the Camino know that the Way never ends  and you have to keep moving forward.

“Traveling is a brutality. It forces you to trust strangers and to lose sight of all that familiar comforts of home and friends. You are constantly off balance. Nothing is yours except the essential things — air, sleep, dreams, the sea, the sky. All things tending towards the eternal or what we imagine of it.”
