About Rockhampton
Rockhampton (also known as “Rocky”) is a compact and student-friendly city in north-east Australia. It’s the regional centre of Central Queensland, and serves the wider region as the industrial and agricultural centre of the north. Brisbane, the State capital of Queensland, is about an hour’s flight south of Rockhampton.
Rockhampton has a population of around 80,000, meaning it’s easy to get around. The attraction for many students is that Rockhampton is a gateway to many of the natural wonders of northern Australia including the Capricorn Caves, Great Keppel Island, and of course, Australia’s top natural treasure, the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef.
You’ll also find attractions in Rockhampton itself including the Rockhampton Zoo, Dreamtime Cultural Centre, and the Rockhampton Art Gallery which boasts one of the most significant collections in regional Australia.
