Undergraduate research allows you to explore your discipline in depth while making an original contribution to the field.
Undergraduate research allows you to explore your discipline in depth while making an original contribution to the field. Students will avail of rich opportunities abroad, in their area of study. Research students can expect to benefit from 20-40 hours of supervision per week in their research placements.
Global Undergraduate Research Placements
Research placements will vary by country, based on your research interest. Our research applicants are typically placed in the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom. However, we will work with you if you prefer another destination.
Social Sciences, Social Work, Politics and Psychology
Students can specialize in political theory, particularly areas such as democratic theory, theories of justice, rational choice theory, and the philosophy of social science. They can also work to analyze companies or institutions that promote social change and development, which involves working directly with individuals or small groups. Both social science and psychology students will be able to conduct research on the experiences and behaviours of individuals or groups. Their research can have educational, practical, and clinical applications.
Music and Art
With possible focuses in composition, musicology, performance and music technology students will find themselves immersed in musical culture while experiencing music research abroad. Art students will be part of a cultural visual language. With opportunities such as art expositions, photography and access to resources for art history, students will have a hands on experience of visual culture abroad.
Engineering and Computer Science
Research projects can promote engineering topics within the fields of materials science and engineering. Some research projects will focus on specific topics such as cyberbullying or harassment using electronic forms of contact. Other projects can be interdisciplinary. For instance, they may focus on app development while creating apps for companies in communication, education and healthcare.
Business Management, Finance, Digital Marketing, Market Research
Projects can involve collecting valuable information to help companies promote their product or service. Business research can include financial data, consumer feedback, product research, digital marketing and competitive analysis. Social entrepreneurship and sustainable development are two other areas that can be developed throughout these areas of research.
Biological, Biomedical Sciences and Health Sciences
Projects will focus on the improvement of human and animal health through scientific research. For example, some research projects will investigate chronic diseases of aging and the development of lifestyle medicine pathways for healthy aging. This field includes the study of medicine, nutrition and other health-related issues such as decreasing the number of infant deaths.
Archaeology and Heritage Management
Ireland’s leading provider of accredited, field-based archaeological research and training provides an opportunity for students of archaeology and anthropology to experience first hand the excitement of archaeological excavation in a teaching environment. Students will be part of a supportive environment while developing professionally.
Agricultural Sciences, Natural Resources and Farm Research
Research projects and activities will respond to ground-level needs, can investigate genetically modified food, food standards, smart agriculture, and precision agriculture practices that will increase production and reduce waste. For agricultural scientists, research farms are often their laboratories. On-farm research will involve regular farming activities. How do we secure sustainable use of resources? How do we contribute to food security? How can new technologies complement existing farming practice? These are some questions to which your research can contribute.
