Internship + Semester Option

Enhance your studies abroad by adding an internship!

Completing an internship abroad can be life-changing. You will gain valuable and career-focused practical experience while applying your academic knowledge to develop a range of transferable, professional skills. Upskilling your resume in this way can help you stand out in a crowded jobs’ market.

While you complete your work placement, a framework of exercises will encourage you to reflect upon the theoretical and practical issues relating to your professional development. You will also be guided to create an up-to-date and polished resume.

Learning outcomes include:

Critically reviewing the concept of the ‘organisation of work’ as it currently exists in the UK
Analysing specific elements of the employment relationship from the perspective of your placement experience
Evaluating the validity of a variety of management theories and models in terms of their practical and conceptual value

Internships are possible in: media, communications, radio, IT, interior design, law and more.

Students will take 3 classes plus the internship (part-time 1 to 1.5 days placement per week). Those that complete an internship will receive 15 UK credits (roughly 4 US credits) for the internship.

An additional fee of €950 will apply to overall programme price.

Where Will I Live?

Accommodation for students is typically arranged in halls of residence that are divided into self contained flats with communal bathroom and kitchen/dining areas.

Your letting fee will usually include utility bills such as gas, water, electricity and WiFi. Most residences will have on-site management and maintenance teams available during working hours and security staff on duty overnight.

Unlike many other universities, London Met does not own or manage its own halls of residence. However, there are a number of privately owned halls located within a few miles of London Met’s Holloway and Aldgate campuses. These may offer single, twin, studio or shared rooms with ensuite or communal bathroom facilities and shared kitchen/dining areas.

Visa

All students must obtain a visa to study in the UK. The type of visa is determined by your nationality, length of stay and type of programme.

Semester programmes (less than 6 months)

For semester programmes (less than 6 months), you may have to apply for a visa in advance. This will include an extra fee, which will be in addition to semester programme fees. You should research whether or not you need one here GOV.UK
If you do not need a visa for a semester programme, you will need to apply for Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to enter the UK. Visitors can find out when they need an ETA to travel and can apply on GOV.UK. An ETA costs £10 and permits multiple journeys to the UK for stays of up to six months at a time over two years or until the holder’s passport expires – whichever is sooner.

For academic year programmes (6 months or longer) and semesters with internships, you will have to apply for a Tier 4 visa in advance.

- The cost of the Tier 4 visa is currently £363 (approximately €420). This cost excludes mandatory UPS shipping (for students applying from within the US), and Priority Visa Services, which are recommended by Learn International, but not required.
- For students staying 6 months or longer, you will also have to pay an NHS surcharge, which is currently £470 (approximately €540).
